Yoga Workshop: Know and Grow Your Strengths

You have a well of inner strength. This workshop combines the wisdom of yoga, yoga asana with the science of character strengths. Participants will gain insights into themselves. And because we’re all unique individuals, the insights will be different for each person. Through self-reflection and practice on the yoga mat, each of us will enhance the strengths that enable us to live fuller, more authentic lives.

Yoga practice helps us know ourselves on a deeper level and ignite what is authentic and best within us. It is a practice of inner reflection through which we come to know ourselves in our breath, body, thoughts, and emotions. This self-study, known in yoga as svadhyaya, makes up one of the essential precepts in the eight-fold path, and enhances our understanding of ourselves and our relationship with our world. The science of character strengths reveals that identifying and using our strengths in our lives allows us to live more authentically and in turn leads to increased satisfaction, happiness, resilience, and ability to navigate challenges.

Character strengths are innate human qualities which exist in all of us, the universal positive elements of who we are that manifest in our lives through our actions, thoughts, and feelings. When we express them in our lives, we feel happier and more connected. They are intricately linked to virtues such as wisdom, courage, and humanity. Imagine living in a world infused with more love, kindness, courage, humor, and honesty. Character strengths are mutable. With awareness we can develop, ignite, practice, and grow our strengths. And when we use and grow our strengths, we flourish. 

Whether on the mat or off, we’re looking grow our awareness and bring forth a balance of our strengths. Our yoga practice raises our awareness and brings us into the present moment, allowing us to use our strengths in a balance way, skillfully knowing how each strength is useful in each situation: at work, in our relationships, and in our communities. When we’re using our strengths in a balanced and effective way, they feel effortless and energizing, we feel like we’re in flow.  

This unique 2-hour workshop integrates vinyasa yoga practice and yoga wisdom with the science of character strengths. This opportunity is an all-levels class for adults who are curious, love to learn, and who want to discover and nurture their strengths.
